At Cottonwood Home when it comes to choosing our suppliers for soy wax melts, it's important for us to consider how, where and of what they are made. We buy from small batch craft makers who use only natural ingredients and nothing paraffin or petrochemical based* Here is some information on soy wax, using wax melts, and our suppliers.

SOY WAX Is derived from Soy Beans. The wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil, solid at room temperature, with a low melting point. It produces no toxins or carcinogens during burning and causes less damage if spilt. Because it burns slowly and melts evenly, soy wax is more economical to use. Soy wax melts can burn for 30-50% longer than paraffin based ones. They're easier to fragrance with natural essential oils, because they doesn’t require additional chemical ingredients to mask the aroma of paraffin. Though there are concerns about the global mono-cropping of the beans, soy is nonetheless a renewable resource and in our view remains preferable to paraffin based waxes.

You use the melts in a very similar way to fragrance oils. Simply place one melt in the dish of your burner, lighting the candle or night light beneath. The wax slowly melts and emits a beautiful scent into the room. Once you finish, blow out the candle or night light and allow the melt to solidify. You can then relight and reuse the melt until all the fragrance has evaporated.

All our soy wax melts are free from phalates, paraffin, palm, beeswax, dyes, synthetic additives, they are not tested on animals and are vegan friendly.

Parrafin wax is a by-product of the highly polluting petro-chemical industry. Paraffin based wax when burnt produces a very strong smell and a black soot that settles in and on walls and home furnishings. It is also known to release eleven toxins into the air, two of which are known carcinogens. It has a high temperature burn with all the increased fire, risk of injury and fume headaches when burned that this can produce.
